League recap: Garza races to league-leading run for Olton

2A-2 Region I District 2 recap September 17, 2013

Olton's Damon Garza recorded the longest rushing play in 2A-2 Region I District 2 this season in his game against Dimmitt last week. Garza's team beat the Bobcats as he sprinted for 80 yards on the play and finished with 92 in all.

Roosevelt scaled the state rankings by moving to 505 from 697 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles were able to make move up by besting Tahoka 56-12.

Roosevelt's dynamic duo of Derek Coppedge and Brendon Wright proved to be unstoppable against the Bulldogs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Coppedge threw for 430 yards and 6 touchdowns and Wright had 187 yards receiving. Kevin Lamae helped Roosevelt's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 92 yards.

Greg Poynor's team's dynamic duo of Coppedge and Wright proved tough for Tahoka to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Coppedge put up the best numbers through the air as the Eagles topped John Cornelius' team.

Wright was the best wideout in the league this week as Roosevelt beat the Bulldogs.

He went 29-44 with 0 interceptions.

Brandon Jackson was the best running back in 2A-2 Region I District 2 this week. He ran for 145 yards on 22 carries as Tulia topped Tahoka. Teammate Jon Martinez added to the ground attack by rushing for 108 yards.

Roosevelt's Coppedge and Wright have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Coppedge has thrown for 1,031 yards this season, while Wright has 23 catches for 431 yards. Jackson from the Hornets leads the league in rushing with 436 yards.

The Eagles took down the Bulldogs 56-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Coppedge during the win.
