Preview: Wahkiakum Mules vs. Rainier Mountaineers

The Wahkiakum Mules will head out on the road to face off against the Rainier Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Wahkiakum on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew North Beach out of the water with a 58-18 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Wahkiakum had established a 26 point advantage.

Zakkary Carlson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 192 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries, while also throwing for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Carlson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Donovan Watson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Rainier had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They claimed a resounding 36-7 win over Toutle Lake on the road. The result was nothing new for Rainier, who have now won four contests by 26 points or more so far this season.

Their wins bumped Wahkiakum to 3-4 and Rainier to 5-2.

Wahkiakum came up short against Rainier in their previous meeting back in September, falling 34-29. Can Wahkiakum avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
