Basketball Recap: Basic Takes a Loss

Basic came into this matchup off a tough 29-point defeat on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Sunny Hills Lancers by a score of 59-57 on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wolves came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 66th in Nevada, while the Lancers are ranked 787th in California).

Despite the loss, Basic still got an impressive performance from Kenny Williams, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 22 points along with five assists and four steals. Williams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Bryson Bentz also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Sunny Hills got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kruz Sandle out in front who went 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points and six boards. The dominant performance also gave Sandle a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (50%). Immanuel Lin was another key player, shooting 56% from the field en route to 13 points and five steals.

Basic has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points over those games. As for Sunny Hills, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.

Coming up, Basic will head out on the road to take on Boulder City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunny Hills, they will host El Dorado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers will need to watch out since the Golden Hawks have now posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups.
