Baseball Game Preview: Lewis Cass Kings vs. Kokomo Wildkats

The Lewis Cass Kings will square off against the Kokomo Wildkats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Lewis Cass took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Peru, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Kings came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers on Wednesday, sneaking past 11-9. While the Kings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kokomo). They put the hurt on Muncie Central with a sharp 15-4 victory on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildkats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

The team relied heavily on J.J. Gillespie, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Harry Blake, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Kokomo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Lewis Cass moved to 6-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Kokomo, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
