Killingly is a perfect 10-0 against Putnam since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Redmen will take on the Clippers at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.
Killingly barely beat Woodstock Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Redmen were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Centaurs on Saturday. The Redmen's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Putnam entered their tilt with New London on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Whalers 21-5. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Clippers this season.
Aubrey Paquette made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Avery Meyette was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with ten stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Avah Grimshaw, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with eight stolen bases and four runs.
Putnam always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Killingly and bumps their season record up to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Putnam, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Killingly took their victory against Putnam in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redmen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
