Basketball Game Preview: St. Margaret's Tartans vs. University Trojans

The St. Margaret's Tartans will head out to challenge the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for St. Margaret's and six for University.

St. Margaret's is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since December 29, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Irvine and fell 74-42. While losing is never fun, the Tartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 866th, while the Vaqueros are ranked 116th).

Meanwhile, University ended up a good deal behind Woodbridge on Thursday and lost 70-55.

St. Margaret's will need focus on slowing down Eli Pretto, one of several University players who made an impact when they last played. He almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. Those 19 points gave Pretto a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shervin Moarrefian, who posted 14 points and five rebounds.

St. Margaret's loss dropped their record down to 8-18. As for University, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-17.

St. Margaret's came up short against University in their previous meeting back in January, falling 72-68. Can St. Margaret's avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
