Kearney faced Grand Island in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bearcats came out on top against the Islanders by a score of  7-4. The  win was nothing new for the Bearcats as they're now sitting on seven straight.
 Derrick Nonhof looked comfortable as he  tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off   three  hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  given up  more than one  walk in five consecutive appearances.
 At the plate, Kearney let  Gunner DeMilt and  Tysen Cabela run wild. DeMilt  went 2-for-4 with two  RBI and one  double, while  Cabela  went a perfect 2-for-2 with two  runs. That's the most  hits  Cabela has posted  over his last 15  matches. The team also got some help courtesy of  Chase Bentz, who  went 1-for-2 with two  runs and one  RBI.
Kearney's victory was  their sixth straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 22-9. Those  home  wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Grand Island, their  loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 18-9.
As of now, neither Kearney nor the Islanders have any future games scheduled.
