Baseball Recap: Oxford Starts Season with Win at Home

Oxford took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the South Haven Cardinals. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Connor Commerford made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Commerford was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kellen Green was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Jonathan Elliott, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Oxford beat South Haven by a score of 15-0 later that day.
