Basketball Recap: Solai Coleman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Varina over Patrick Henry

Varina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Patrick Henry Patriots. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Varina lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Solai Coleman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 34.3% of Varina's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Kaliyah Straughter was another key player, putting up three points along with 14 boards, seven blocks, and four steals.

Varina's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Patrick Henry, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-12.

Varina has already played their next matchup (against Henrico), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Patrick Henry will head out to face off against Atlee at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Atlee has lost three straight at home , while Patrick Henry has lost 18 on the road (dating back to last season).
