Basketball Game Preview: Skowhegan River Hawks vs. Brewer Witches

The Skowhegan River Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Brewer Witches at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Skowhegan is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Last Thursday, Skowhegan was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-43 to Hampden. While losing is never fun, the River Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Broncos are ranked 24th).

Meanwhile, Brewer didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Camden Hills on Friday, but they still walked away with a 54-49 victory.

Brewer's win came from a few key players Skowhegan will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Steven Youngs, who went 7 for 12 en route to 20 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Owen Fullerton, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Skowhegan's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Brewer, their record now sits at 11-2.

Skowhegan was taken down by Brewer 68-40 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Skowhegan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
