Baseball Recap: Horizon Gets the Win

Horizon took a 19-run loss the last time they faced off against DeLand, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Horizon Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the DeLand Bulldogs on Thursday. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 19-0 victory the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2022.

Horizon got a great performance from Denver Patton as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Patton posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

At the plate, Sebastian Davila was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Michael Singer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Horizon's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for DeLand, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-11.

Looking ahead, Horizon will be taking part in a tournament against Flagler Palm Coast at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for DeLand, they will challenge Martin County at 8:45 a.m. on Friday. Martin County's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so DeLand's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
