Basketball Recap: Liberty's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to 12

Liberty had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.2 points) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Saturday. They took down the Natomas Nighthawks 77-60. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Nighthawks are ranked 194th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Natomas lost, don't look at Manno Jenkins. Despite the final result, he posted 19 points and seven boards. The contest was Jenkins' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Kanye Lewis was another key player, putting up six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

Liberty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. As for Natomas, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 12-6 record.

Liberty will be taking part in a tournament against Grant at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Liberty knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 matches -- so hopefully Grant likes a good challenge. As for Natomas, they will face off against Fremont at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Natomas' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.
