Soccer Game Preview: Las Lomas vs. Benicia

Las Lomas is 4-0 against Benicia since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Las Lomas Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Benicia Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

On Saturday, Las Lomas came up short against San Ramon Valley and fell 3-1. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 538th, while Wolves are ranked 219th).

Meanwhile, Benicia came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.3 goals) and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Mustangs onto the board and left with a 1-0 win. Give the Panthers' defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Riley Phipps, who's now up to four this season.

Benicia pushed their record up to 5-2-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three games. As for Las Lomas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3-1.

Las Lomas took their win against Benicia in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Las Lomas since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
