Softball Recap: Newcomerstown Takes a Loss

Newcomerstown dropped down to 6-5 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Sandy Valley Cardinals by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Trojans couldn't push the score so high this time.

Makenzi McConnell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Sandy Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.

On Sandy Valley's side, Elainah Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.

On the hitting side, Sandy Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Davis, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.

Coming up, Newcomerstown will challenge Malvern at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.12 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sandy Valley, they will square off against Claymont at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
