Softball Recap: Heartland Christian Lions vs. Catholic Central Crusaders
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Toronto, Heartland Christian was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 26-10 margin over the Catholic Central Crusaders. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Kenzie Gallant made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Gallant was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Natalie Barrow was incredible, going a perfect 6-for-6 with ten RBI, three stolen bases, and four runs. Emily McDowell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Heartland Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Catholic Central only posted an OBP of .500.
Heartland Christian's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Catholic Central, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Heartland Christian beat the Crusaders by a score of 21-1 later that day.
