Softball Recap: Woodson Cavaliers vs. Lake Braddock Bruins

Woodson extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Braddock Bruins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 back in March.

Woodson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Hartley, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Lake Braddock, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Lake Braddock's side, the result came thanks to Mac Verdejo's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Verdejo has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Radha Samuel was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Eva Dubray was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Woodson will welcome West Springfield at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Cavaliers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lake Braddock, they will head out to face off against Alexandria City at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
