Softball Recap: Newcomb Takes a Loss

Newcomb dropped their record down to 6-17 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Zuni Thunderbirds by a score of 14-12. The Skyhawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Thunderbirds earlier this season, when they won 20-3.

As for Zuni, with the win, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-16. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 23, 2024.

For Zuni's part, they got a massive performance out of Kiaura Kallestewa, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four runs. Those four runs gave Kallestewa a new career-high. Malaya Quam was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newcomb will host Shiprock at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Skyhawks are facing the Chieftains at the right time seeing as the Chieftains are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Zuni, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Navajo Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunderbirds will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests.
