Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apex). They put the hurt on the Green Level Gators with a sharp 38-15 victory on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their 13-point performance the game before.
Apex's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Boone, who picked up 53 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 33 yards and one score. Another passer making a difference was Kyle Hulse, who threw for 230 yards and three TDs.
Apex didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Green Level to a completion percentage of just 48.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Jackson Hunter, Justin Witmer, and Eric Roy, who each logged one passes deflected. Apex wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 66.7%.
Apex didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Roy, Aiden Johnson, and Cooper McDougall picked up one apiece.
When it comes to explaining why Green Level lost, don't look at Luke Pagan. Despite the final result, he rushed for 130 yards and one score, and also picked up 31 receiving yards and one touchdown. With that strong performance, Pagan is now averaging an impressive 101 rushing yards per game.
With the victory, Apex broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7. As for Green Level, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Apex has already played their next matchup, a 17-7 defeat against Panther Creek on the 24th. As for Green Level, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-0 loss against Jordan on the 24th.
