Savannah is 8-2 against Chillicothe since October of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Savages will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Chillicothe will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Savannah extended their winning streak to six on Friday. The Savages blew past Cameron 47-6. Given the Savages' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Dragons are ranked 202nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Savannah got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Knechtenhofer out in front who rushed for 26 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Makhi King, who rushed for 84 yards and one score on only eight carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Savannah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 226 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Chillicothe never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Lafayette, posting a 35-0 victory. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Fighting Irish recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Chillicothe's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Henry Hurtgen, Tyler Lehmann, and Jaishon White, who each picked up one sack apiece. Chillicothe got some further help from Hurtgen: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Savannah's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Chillicothe, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Savannah has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 318.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Chillicothe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 183 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Savannah against Chillicothe in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-6 victory. Will the Savages repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
