Basketball Game Preview: Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos vs. McCutcheon Mavericks

Lafayette Jefferson is 2-8 against McCutcheon since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The two teams will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. Lafayette Jefferson is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Lafayette Jefferson is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Clinton Prairie 68-27. The Bronchos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Maya Layton, who went 11 of 20 on her way to 26 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amani Byrd, who posted ten points and four steals.

Lafayette Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after a string of 11 wins, McCutcheon's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 72-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valparaiso.

Lafayette Jefferson's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.4 points per game. As for McCutcheon, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2.

Lafayette Jefferson was dealt a bruising 58-27 loss at the hands of McCutcheon when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of McCutcheon's Lillie Graves, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 19 points along with eight assists and four steals.
