Football Recap: Royse City Comes Up Short

If Royse City was riding high fresh off their 38-17 takedown of Tyler Legacy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bulldogs took a 45-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rockwall-Heath Hawks on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Royse City lost, don't look at Jamion Richardson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 110 yards and four scores on only 13 carries, and also threw for 225 yards on 16 of 34 attempts. Zavier Brown was another key player, rushing for 124 yards and one TD.

Royse City's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Rockwall-Heath, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Royse City will take on rival North Forney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,109 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Rockwall-Heath is set to square off against their familiar foe Longview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
