Softball Recap: Catskill Comes Up Short

Catskill had lost eight straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 4-11 to make it nine. They lost 16-1 to the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Ravens. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cats couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, their win bumped their record up to 12-7. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

For Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk's part, Braelynn Maurer was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Maurer has posted since back in April of 2025. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk got a massive performance out of Megan Visone, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Visone a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabella Ciccarelli, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Catskill will head out on the road to challenge Taconic Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Voorheesville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blackbirds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.56 runs per game on average), something the Ravens will no doubt try to take advantage of.
