Baseball Game Preview: Carlsbad Lancers vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

For the second straight game, Carlsbad will face off against La Costa Canyon. The Lancers will host the Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games Carlsbad has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last three times Carlsbad and La Costa Canyon have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Lancers fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 2-1.

Carlsbad had to settle for second despite strong performances on the mound from Weston Thornbury and Andrew Langer Thornbury pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits, while Langer tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Langer has allowed since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Carlsbad saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rob Bering, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

La Costa Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Carlsbad, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
