Basketball Recap: South Caldwell Spartans vs. Watauga Pioneers
South Caldwell suffered their biggest defeat since January 3rd on Friday. They came up short against the Watauga Pioneers, falling 72-48. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Pioneers are ranked 16th).

Kristin Barber and Ava Anderson certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Barber posted 20 points, while Anderson had 19 points. Anderson's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Holland Weisner was another key player, putting up seven points.
Kate Sears was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 31 points and ten assists for Watauga. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sears has scored at least a third of Watauga's points. Another player making a difference was Blair Haines, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 14 points and five boards.
South Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Watauga, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.
