Basketball Recap: Westwood Warriors vs. Red Mountain Mountain Lions

Westwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 57-18 loss at the hands of the Red Mountain Mountain Lions. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 58th).

Westwood's loss came despite strong showings from Sienna Riggs and Joylani Takju. Riggs posted ten points, while Takju earned five points. That was a full 55.6% of Westwood's points, marking the ninth time in a row Riggs has had more than a third of the team's points.

Red Mountain was led to victory by Sierra Mellish and Zoey Hancock. Mellish put up 11 points and four steals, while Hancock went 6-for-9 to rack up 13 points and five boards. That's the most steals Mellish has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Audrey Pacheco, who scored a point in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Westwood's loss dropped their record down to 2-21. As for Red Mountain, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 17-9.
