Softball Recap: Roseburg Gets the Win

Roseburg posted their closest win since April 5th on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Willamette Wolverines 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won nine in a row.

Jasmine Morales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Masyn Tabor and Hannah Bakke did most of the damage at the plate: Tabor went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Bakke got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Bakke a new career-high. Cadence Ellenwood was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Roseburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in five consecutive games.

Roseburg pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Willamette, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Roseburg will square off against rival South Medford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 2.5, the Panthers 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Willamette is set to challenge their familiar foe Sheldon at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
