Baseball Recap: Neumann-Goretti Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for Neumann-Goretti's offense. They fell just short of the Conwell-Egan Catholic Eagles by a score of 1-0 on Thursday. The Saints were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Anthony Coppola spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits.

On the hitting side, Neumann-Goretti saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicholas Cerone, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Neumann-Goretti has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9-1 record this season. As for Conwell-Egan Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Neumann-Goretti will face off against Delsea at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Conwell-Egan Catholic, they will square off against Interboro at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Buccaneers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
