Basketball Recap: Hoehne Skates Past Rocky Ford with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Hoehne's strategy against Rocky Ford on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hoehne Farmers blew the Rocky Ford Meloneers out of the water with a 76-40 final score. The Farmers have beaten the Meloneers the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Meloneers has come to flipping the script.

Bobby Terry was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.1 blocks per game. Another player making a difference was Nathan Zamora, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 13 points and four steals.

Hoehne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Isaiah Vazquez-Gallegos and Shayne Gonzales certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Vazquez-Gallegos dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Gonzales posted 13 points. That's the most points Gonzales has posted since back in January of 2024. Angelo Griego also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

The victory got Hoehne back to even at 7-7. As for Rocky Ford, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Hoehne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 75-40 win against La Veta on the 6th. As for Rocky Ford, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-49 defeat against Swallows Charter Academy on the 6th.
