Volleyball Recap: Grand Island Islanders vs. North Platte Bulldogs
Grand Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Platte Bulldogs. The Islanders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
Grand Island started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-19, 25-22.
Zada Gernstein paced Grand Island's offense, picking up 12 kills. Gernstein were helped by Emery Glause and Alexa Sackschewsky, who contributed 12 assists each. Finally, Gernstein was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high five blocks.
Grand Island's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for North Platte, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Coincidentally, Grand Island and North Platte will both be playing Columbus the next time they take the court. The Bulldogs will host the Discoverers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Islanders will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
