Football Game Preview: Mount Airy Granite Bears vs. West Stokes Wildcats

The Mount Airy Granite Bears will venture away from home to square off against the West Stokes Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mount Airy will be strutting in after a win while West Stokes will be coming in after a loss.

Mount Airy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past North Surry to the tune of 63-21 on Friday. The Granite Bears pushed the score to 56-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Greyhounds had no chance of recovering from.

Mount Airy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Braddox Sumner, Taeshon Martin, and Aidan Pomeroy picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, West Stokes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 24-17 to Forbush. The game was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Wildcats couldn't quite close it out.

The victory made it two in a row for Mount Airy and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.5 points over those games. As for West Stokes, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Mount Airy beat West Stokes 27-20 in their previous meeting back in August of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Granite Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
