Baseball Recap: Orangeburg-Wilkinson Beats Battery Creek for Their Fourth Straight Win

Orangeburg-Wilkinson came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Battery Creek Dolphins with a sharp 11-2 win. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.

Caleb Haynes made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Orangeburg-Wilkinson's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Orangeburg-Wilkinson let Kaleb Jamison and Donovan Hughes run wild. Jamison went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Hughes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Hughes has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Xavier Glover, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Battery Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Battery Creek, they are taking a road trip to challenge Hampton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
