Baseball Recap: Paul VI's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Paul VI dropped their record down to 15-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Bishop O'Connell Knights by a score of 2-1. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Paul VI got a good showing from Lucas Driscoll, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Driscoll gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Paul VI saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Minogue, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Minogue has hit this season.

As for Bishop O'Connell, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.

On Bishop O'Connell's side, Drew Markey looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Markey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Paul VI didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-0 victory against Our Lady of Good Counsel on the 12th. As for Bishop O'Connell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, an 8-7 win against Bishop Ireton on the 12th.
