Basketball Recap: Cotulla Falls Despite Big Games from Rene Barrera and Jamarkuz Ramirez

Cotulla was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 78-55 to the St. Paul Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1318th, while the Cardinals are ranked 421st).

Cotulla's loss came despite strong showings from Jamarkuz Ramirez and Rene Barrera. Ramirez posted 28 points and three steals, while Barrera dropped a double-double with ten points and 14 boards. That was a full 50.9% of the Cowboys' points, marking the third time in a row Ramirez has scored more than a third of the team's points. Drayden Serna was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Cotulla's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for St. Paul, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Cotulla didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 76-73 victory against Lutheran on the 11th. As for St. Paul, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-36 win against Weimar on the 11th.
