Football Recap: Waterford Lancers vs. Killingly Redmen

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Waterford can now relate to. They were dealt a 42-7 loss at the hands of the Killingly Redmen on Sunday. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Redmen are ranked 18th).

Jax Higgins threw for 90 yards and one touchdown. Parker Spencer was his top target, picking up 40 receiving yards.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Hayden Allard and Everton Brown. Allard rushed for 197 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry while Brown rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Brown's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Waterford's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Killingly, the win keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Waterford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Killingly, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Sheehan at 6:30 p.m. Killingly is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Sheehan a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
