Softball Recap: Orange Gets the Win

Orange made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Estancia, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 14-0 shutout on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Eagles back in March, they had to take a 14-5 defeat.

Scarlett Poitra made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madyson Valerio, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liliana Nunez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Orange kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.6.

Orange's win bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Estancia, they dropped their record down to 4-8 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Orange will welcome La Quinta at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Aztecs have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Estancia, they are taking a road trip to face off against Los Amigos at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lobos have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
