Softball Recap: Washington Drops Highest Score of Season Against Northridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington). They blew past the Northridge Polar Bears 23-4 on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Blue Lions considering their one-run performance the match before.

Jayden Skeens made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Adysun Bartruff was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylynn Stephenson, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Washington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Washington's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-12. As for Northridge, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will head out to face off against Wilmington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northridge, they will venture away from home to challenge Urbana at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
