The Chatham Charter Knights will challenge the Falls Lake Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chatham Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Chatham Charter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Gates County get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. Considering the Knights have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Chatham Charter's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tyner Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Chatham Charter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Falls Lake hadn't done well against Bear Grass Charter recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Firebirds came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bears, sneaking past 5-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Firebirds.
Nick Denny spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jacob Watson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
Chatham Charter has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Falls Lake, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chatham Charter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Falls Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
