Basketball Game Preview: Valley Patriots vs. Guthrie Jaguars

Valley is 7-0 against Guthrie since January of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Valley Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Guthrie Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Guthrie likes a good challenge.

Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Motley County, posting a 102-53 win. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Valley relied on the efforts of Kanyon Taylor, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds, and Corbin Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 boards. The match was Corbin's third in a row with at least ten points. Damian Valdes was another key player, going 9 of 13 on his way to 20 points.

Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Guthrie, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 58-40 victory over Spur on Tuesday.

Valley's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-2. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Guthrie, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season.

Everything went Valley's way against Guthrie in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, as Valley made off with a 61-38 victory. In that contest, Valley amassed a halftime lead of 34-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
