Volleyball Recap: Covington Comes Up Short

Covington dropped to 11-5 on Thursday, ending the team's three-match streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Brighton Cardinals, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Chargers have suffered against the Cardinals since August 31, 2020.

Ava McCalla paced Covington's offense, picking up 15 kills. McCalla got some help from Caroline Cole and her 15 assists. Rowan Maxwell and Kenleigh Jacobs kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

As for Brighton, their win ended a three-match drought on the road and puts them at 12-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory they have posted against Covington since August 31, 2020.

Brighton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Greta Garrett led the charge by getting five digs and three aces. What's more, Garrett racked up 30 assists, the most she's had over her last eight matches. Another player making a difference was Taylor Simpson, who had 12 kills, seven digs, and four aces.

Covington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Ripley on the 22nd. As for Brighton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Dyer County on the 22nd.
