Baseball Recap: Cordova Takes a Loss

If Cordova was riding high fresh off their 8-2 takedown of Grant on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lancers fell just short of the Antelope Titans by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Levi Nyberg put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since April 4th. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Nathaniel Jones was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Cordova's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12-1. As for Antelope, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cordova will square off against West Park at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Lancers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Antelope, they will face off against McClatchy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
