Baseball Recap: Churubusco Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Churubusco hadn't done well against Woodlan recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Warriors 5-4. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Churubusco got a great performance from Ethan Hartsock as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Hartsock has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Drake Richards, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Cameron Patten, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

The victory (which was Churubusco's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-17. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Woodlan, they moved to 13-14 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Churubusco and Woodlan are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Eagles will face off against Westview at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Woodlan, they will challenge Adams Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flying Jets have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
