It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lakeland had no problem doing just that on Monday. Everything went their way against the Kathleen Red Devils as they made off with a 15-0 win. Give the Dreadnaughts' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Kennedy Davenport was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Yaneliz Olivo was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Sadie Cortijo also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Lakeland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matchups.
Lakeland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Kathleen, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-12.
Coming up, Lakeland will take on Sebring at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dreadnaughts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Streaks have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. Kathleen does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
