Baseball Recap: Cordova Beats Kennedy for Their Third Straight Victory

Cordova waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Kennedy Cougars 13-3. With that victory, the Lancers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Cordova let Levi Nyberg and Gabriel Bargas run wild. Nyberg scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Bargas scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2. Bargas is becoming a predictor of Cordova's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-4-1 when he doesn't). Daniel Swick was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases.

Cordova always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Cordova's record is now 6-4-1. As for Kennedy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Coming up, Cordova will head out on the road to face off against McClatchy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. McClatchy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Cordova's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Kennedy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Antelope at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Kennedy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Antelope has averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
