Softball Recap: Soquel Takes a Loss

Soquel had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it four. They came up short against the Aptos Mariners, falling 15-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Knights were not able to get on the board.

As for Aptos, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.

For Aptos' part, Gwen Vaca and Nova Neu did most of the damage at the plate: Vaca got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Neu went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Izzy Baker, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Soquel will venture away from home to take on Scotts Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Aptos, they will host Harbor at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.31 runs per game on average), something the Mariners will no doubt try to take advantage of.
