Baseball Recap: Northwestern Wins Going Away Against Miami Country Day

While Northwestern didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-7), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Miami Country Day Spartans with a sharp 17-2 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Bulls have won four contests by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Bryon Fox made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Fox was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Northwestern let Jesus Rivera and Alejandro Garcia run wild. Rivera scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Garcia scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Rivera a new career-high in stolen bases. E Barker was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Northwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Northwestern pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. As for Miami Country Day, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwestern will face off against Booker T. Washington at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Booker T. Washington will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Northwestern surely won't give up without a fight. As for Miami Country Day, they will challenge Marathon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
