Recap: Fairmont Golden Tornadoes vs. Midway Raiders

The Fairmont Golden Tornadoes lost to the Midway Raiders back in January of 2023, but the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes didn't allow the Midway Raiders the same satisfaction on Tuesday. Fairmont took down Midway 69-52. Given Fairmont's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Midway is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fairmont can attribute much of their success to Issac McKellar, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McKellar has scored all season. Naishon Davis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

Midway's loss came despite strong showings from Travis Gist and Ke?mari McNeil. Gist scored 20 points, while McNeil scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Gist scored 15 or more points.

Fairmont's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Midway, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairmont will take on St. Pauls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Pauls is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.1 points per game. As for Midway, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on West Bladen at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. West Bladen will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
