North Stokes was handed a 48-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Chatham Central Bears 27-26. The Vikings' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Noah Bennett looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

Another reason for the win was North Stokes' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. In that department, Jackson Bodenhamer was the leader with two.

Despite the loss, Chatham Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooks Albright threw for 231 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 115 yards on only nine carries. Those four passing touchdowns set a new season-high mark for Albright.

North Stokes' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Chatham Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Stokes will square off against Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will be up against the Phoenix's rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Chatham Central, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on College Prep & Leadership Academy at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
