Recap: Dunbar Wolverines vs. Beechcroft Cougars
The Dunbar Wolverines scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They came out on top against Beechcroft by a score of 66-56. Given Dunbar's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Beechcroft is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dunbar's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lamontre Tripp, who scored 15 points. Tripp set a new season high mark in points with 15. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimmy Hill iv, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Beechcroft still got an impressive performance from Khalil Samuel, who scored 22 points along with five assists. Samuel is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Santonio Dortch was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
The victory for Dunbar keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Beechcroft, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dunbar won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Archbishop Alter at 6:30 p.m. on December 10th. As for Beechcroft, they will be playing at home against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
