Softball Game Preview: Westside Warriors vs. Gosnell Pirates

Westside is a perfect 5-0 against Gosnell since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will challenge the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westside has five straight wins, Gosnell has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Thursday, Westside got the win against Pocahontas by a conclusive 7-1. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Mckyna Craig was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vada Watkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Gosnell didn't have quite enough to beat Wynne on Monday and fell 5-4.

Gosnell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Westside's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Gosnell, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Everything went Westside's way against Gosnell in their previous meeting back in April of 2018, as Westside made off with a 10-4 victory. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
