Basketball Game Preview: Tamalpais Red Tailed Hawks vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

Having just played yesterday, the Tamalpais Red Tailed Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Tamalpais is headed into Saturday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-57 heartbreaker at the hands of Rancho Cotate. While losing is never fun, the Red Tailed Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 796th, while the Cougars are ranked 179th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cardinal Newman, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with a 60-49 win over Rancho Cotate on Thursday.

Cardinal Newman pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.8 points. As for Tamalpais, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Tamalpais didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Cardinal Newman when the teams last played back in February of 2017, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win.
